What is our mission?
AFHRA's mission is described below as outline in our constitution
- To detect, prevent and treat cardiac arrhythmias in Africa.
- To educate and train African healthcare professionals on the management of arrhythmogenic disorders and their outcomes.
- To educate laypersons to recognize and prevent risk factors for cardiac arrhythmia
- To invest in the research of cardiac arrhythmias and conduction disturbances as well as in sport cardiology.

Dr. Sogade is actively involved in advancing the diagnosis and management of cardiac arrhythmias through clinical practice, research, and professional collaboration. His leadership role within AFHRA reflects his commitment to strengthening heart rhythm care and supporting the development of electrophysiology services across Africa.

Dr Mervat Aboulmaaty (MD, PhD, EHRA certified) is a professor of cardiology and a consultant of electrophysiology at Ain Shams University in Egypt and the current president of the Egyptian Cardiac Rhythm Association (ECRA).

Dr Aboulmaaty has been working in the field of Electrophysiology since 1990. In addition, she received training in the USA at Wayne State University between 1990-1991. Since then, she has persuaded her way in this field by visiting many EP labs in the USA and Europe.
Her life goal is to provide high quality treatment for cardiac patients and guide physicians in the field of electrophysiology.
She dedicated her life and time to providing the electrophysiology services to many patients in her country Egypt as well as in different countries in Africa.
Moreover, she has provided enormous help to the foundation of the African Heart Rhythm Association (AFHRA). She also contributes to research development at her country and worldwide on a regular basis.

More than 30 years served in clinical research as leading investigator or co-investigator. Author of more than 300 publications. Teaching Cardiologist-Electrophysiologist, I work in French and Cameroonian hospitals. President of African Heart Rhythm Association (AFHRA) and chair of the AFHRA working group on sudden cardiac death. Co-Editor for Africa of the European Heart Journal and the Journal of American College of Cardiology-Clinical Electrophysiology (JACC-CEP).
Hany Samir Assaad, MD PhD Alexandria University, Alexandria , EGYPT
Assistant Secretary of AFHRA
Hany Samir is the Assistant Secretary General of AFHRA. He is a professor at the Faculty of Medicine Alexandria University, Director of Alhyatt CARE Program at Alhyatt Heart & Vascular Center, Alexandria, Egypt. After receiving his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Egypt, he completed his residency and obtained his M.Sc. in collaboration with the University of Chicago, USA & then he pursued with his Ph.D., serving as a lecturer at the department. He completed his fellowship training in prestigious cardiac centers in France: Rangueil University Hospital, Pitie Salpetiriere & Dubos Paris Hospitals, got certified from the Toulouse III Paul Sabatier University, France, and later at Paris Descartes University, France, when he also fulfilled his PhD degree as a joint collaboration. He received his training & certification in Heart Failure management from Paris Descartes University, France, where he later became a lecturer at the French Diploma in Heart Failure & Cardio-metabolic therapeutic education. He completed his fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology at the Paris VII University France, as well as receiving the certification from the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA). He contributed with multiple peer reviewed publications in the field of cardiovascular disease, notably Heart Failure & EP registries as well as pioneer work related to the field of digital health.

David Bradley, MD. C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital, University of Michigan, Michigan, USA

Professor Bradley is the director of electrophysiology C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan in the USA. He collaborates with the University of Rwanda and received a Fulbright U. S. Scholar Grant to work in Rwanda from 2022-2023 to assist with cardiac training programs. He sits on the Training Board of the Heart Care and Research Foundation, Rwanda.
